Teatro Apollo

The Teatro Apollo of Mondavio, active since the end of the eighteenth century, was created inside the church of San Filippo Neri, built in ‘400. Today, only the perimeter walls and the underground crypt of the original structure are visible. In 1887, during renovations, a third tier of boxes was added and the decorations were renewed, with the reopening entrusted to the Rizzotti Comic Company. In 1947, the theatre was transformed into a cinema, but later closed due to its unfitness for use. Located near the Rocca Roveresca, the building has a sober façade squeezed between private buildings, with an octagonal opening above the entrance. Inside, the stalls and boxes were created in the nave of the church, with the stage in the apse. The decorations, although damaged, include an elegant ceiling with a plaster velarium and the figure of Apollo.
