Teatro Angelo Battelli

The Teatro Angelo Battelli in Macerata Feltria, inaugurated on 26 September 1932, replaced the small 18th-century Teatro "Antimi Clari" . Commissioned by physicist Angelo Battelli, the new theatre was built thanks to a committee chaired by the lawyer Cesare Antimi Clari, with the architect, impresario and bricklayer Dante Giampaoli and his sons. The structure is autonomous and has a facade with a tympanum decorated with a large lyre. The room has 19th-century decorations with some 20th-century elements, while the vault, with a large Art Nouveau painting, depicts Macerata Feltria listening to Apollo play the lyre. After years of decay and closure in 1984, the theatre was reopened on 23 September 2001 after a lengthy restoration.
