Teatro Cortesi

The first certain news about the Teatro Cortesi in Sirolo dates back to 1872, when Mayor Montanari proposed to the community to choose between building a road to the beach or building a theatre. The population opted for the second option, actively participating in its implementation. The theatre was inaugurated in 1875 with a prose and music performance. Restoration work was carried out in 1908. The building, build with the white stone from Mount Conero, fits perfectly into the fortified walls of the city and features a 19th-century façade. The interior is organized into two sections: the entrance foyer with pillars and arches and the theatre hall with a stage. The room, in "fin de siècle" style, is characterised by decorated pilasters and parapets, with a cavea supported by Doric columns and a ceiling decorated with dodecagonal mirrors with allegorical figures.
