Teatro Giambattista Velluti

The Teatro Gian Battista Velluti in Corridonia has its origins in the 17th century, when a deconsecrated church was adapted for theatrical performances. Inaugurated in 1819 thanks to Giacomo Nobili and 28 other members, including the Municipality, it was later named in 1895 after Gian Battista Velluti, a famous soprano from Montolmo (now Corridonia). He is known for his extraordinary voice and appreciated by composers such as Rossini and Donizetti. In 1904, the painter Sigismondo Martini completed a significant restoration, decorating the ceiling with six Liberty-style muses and recovering the Baroque apparatus of the boxes. After a long period of decay, the theatre was restored in 2004 thanks to the Municipality and the Associazione "Amici del Teatro". Today, with an ellipsoidal stalls for excellent acoustics and renewed in blue tones, it is a historic jewel of the Marche region. Part of the national and European theatre circuit, it hosts cultural events, highlighting local tradition and the figure of Velluti.
