Teatro la Nuova Fenice

The Teatro la Nuova Fenice in Osimo was built between 1887 and 1892 based on a design by architect Gaetano Canedi, replacing the old structure designed by Cosimo Morelli between 1773 and 1787. The previous theatre, characterised by a bell-shaped hall and 67 boxes distributed across four tiers with elegant balcony balustrades, was decorated by Vincenzo Mazza, Giovanni Battista Bunelli and Melchiorre Jelli. Declared unfit for use in 1881, it was demolished in 1885 to make way for the new structure. The decorations of the current theatre, designed by Giovanni Diana, Fernando Torchi and Alfonso Goldini, embellish the building. Closed in 1987 to comply with safety regulations, the theatre was restored and reopened in 1999, returning to being a place of culture and entertainment.
