Teatro del Leone

Santa Vittoria in Matenano
Teatro del Leone

In Santa Vittoria in Matenano, between 1807 and 1808, a condominium company obtained permission from the Municipality to transform a hall of the Palazzo Comunale into a theatre, inaugurated in 1815 with the name Teatro del Leone. After various repairs and a period of neglect, the theatre was destroyed by fire in 1965, but subsequent reconstruction radically changed the original structure. A further post-earthquake restoration project in 1997 brought the theatre back to its historical characteristics, recovering its original splendor and architectural typology.
