Teatro Comunale

In 1792, the suspension of theatrical performances in Treia prompted local nobles to plan a new theatre. The opera, directed by Giuseppe Lucatelli and begun by fellow citizen Rusca, was built in several phases: the main body with stalls and stage was completed in 1815, the atrium in 1817 based on a design by Filippo Spada, and the decorations and upper dressing rooms were completed in 1820. The building was built on the site of the ancient church of San Martino, near Castello del Cassero , with a neoclassical façade characterised by six Ionic pilasters. Inside, the hemicycle layout and the gallery reflect French influence, with the ceiling decorated by the painter Lausdei, whose design was approved by Ireneo Aleandri.
